Jackson Twp. assisted living facility ordered to pay $1.93 million in lawsuit
A federal jury Friday ordered the owners of a Jackson Township assisted living facility to pay $1.93 million after finding that a former resident suffered brain damage, and ultimately died, after being given a drug for diabetes when she didn’t have the disease.
The two-week trial was heard before U.S. District Court Judge David D. Dowd in Akron.
The verdict, which includes $1.25 million in punitive damages, also requires the defendants to pay attorney fees.
The company that operates the facility plans to appeal.
