Family awarded $1 million in nursing-home death

A Summit County Common Pleas jury
awarded the family of an Akron woman more than $1 million in a wrongful
death case against a Tallmadge nursing home.

Heather Knoll Retirement Village Inc.
was found responsible for the August 2006 death of Akron resident Robin
Volpe, who was 69 when she died after a fall at the nursing home.

Robin Volpe’s husband, Stan Volpe and
her sons, Michael and Mark Testa, were awarded $1,001,540 by the jury
on Tuesday, said Megan Frantz, an attorney with the Canton and Akron law
firm Tzangas, Plakas, Mannos & Raies Ltd. that represented the
family.

A Summit County Common Pleas jury awarded the family of an Akron
woman more than $1 million in a wrongful death case against a Tallmadge
nursing home.
